Founded in 2006, the
Treetops Chamber Music Society, currently
celebrating its second concert season, is
devoted to bringing world-class chamber
music and musicians to the
Greenwich-Stamford area. Its main stage
is the intimate setting of the former Art
Studio at the storied Treetops Estate.
Treetops CMS has presented the New York Woodwind
Quintet (returning on May 10-11), Anthony Newman, and the Shanghai Quartet (returning on
April 26-27). The Met Orchestra Quintet will open the
spring season at Treetops with concerts
on April 5-6. Treetops CMS presents the
annual J.C. Arriaga
Chamber Music Competition (Finals at UConn
on April 11 and Winners Concert at
Treetops on April 12). Treetops CMS
outreach includes Music and Nature at
Treetops, a program for area public
school children that incorporates
hands-on enriching experiences in music
and nature in collaboration with Sound Waters.

Bringing a second life to Louis Schankers art studio
has proven rewarding: the concert space
has outstanding chamber music acoustics
and the intimate setting is incomparable
for the creative and friendly atmosphere
found at Treetops CMS. Many new
friendships have emerged at Treetops CMS
over great concerts and the wine and
conversations that follow the music.
Music and nature come together in such
great harmony at Treetops. |

C. ARRIAGA CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION |
 |
|
2008 J. C.
ARRIAGA CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION WINNERS
Concert
performance plays an irreplaceable role
in the education of young artists, and
chamber music performance is at the
center of creative music education. For
the young J. C. Arriaga playing the
violin in various chamber music ensembles
was the only school at the time he
composed his first opera. He later would
enter the illustrious Paris Conservatory.
Although Arriaga was a classical composer
deserving a prominent place in history,
his music wasnt played widely in
international circles until fairly
recently. It took the tenacious support
of many institutions and music
organizations to make Arriagas
international appreciation possible. In a
very similar way, todays most
deserving young chamber ensembles need
the support of music organizations to
jumpstart their careers. That is why
to complement the musical education
of young artists is part of the
mission of the Treetops Chamber Music
Society which, inspired by the example of
Arriaga, is set to assist most deserving
young chamber musicians through its J. C.
Arriaga Chamber Music Competition
starting in the spring of 2008.
