Connecticut artists and arts organizations could not have asked for a better friend and advocate than Vivien White. Passionate, perceptive and deeply committed to exploring new ideas, Vivien has been a community activist, humanitarian and champion of the arts for more than 50 years, serving in key roles that have made a profound impact on our community.
Vivien has been a board member of the Connecticut Commission on the Arts for more than 25 years, was the vice chair of the Stamford Cultural Development Corporation, and has had leadership positions on the boards of the New England Foundation for the Arts, the City of Stamford Community Arts Partnership Program, the Urban League of Southwestern Connecticut, the Connecticut Association for Human Services and the Friends of the Ferguson Library, among others.
Her many accolades include the 2015 Light a Fire award for involvement in the arts and the 2013 Stamford Public Education Foundation Excellence in Education Community Volunteer Award, which recognized her and her late husband, Arthur, for their decades of community service.
An ardent supporter of Treetops Chamber Music Society since its inception, Vivien has been instrumental in helping the organization realize its outreach efforts to new and nontraditional audiences, combining her twin commitments to the arts and social justice.
